Full Version: Urgent - Error When Using Keyboard
HyperBoard > Gaming Discussions > Midtown Madness
Jordan
Hello Everyone.

I am starting this topic because I am having a problem using the keyboard to play Midtown Madness 1.

When I use my keyboard to play the game, it doesn't respond immediately. For example, if I hit C to change the view of my car to another view, it sometimes takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes before view changes.

I contacted the support and it didn't help at all.

Does anyone know anything I could do?

They said to update my video drivers, but its a 20mb download, which is too large for a slow dialup connection.

Thank you for your support in this matter, have a nice day!

Might be something wrong with the keyboard itself. I once had a problem when I was turning my vehicle and the game thought I was still holding the arrow key down. I solved it by re-installing. Backup your players folder and other stuff first, then uninstall and reinstall. It might even be a download that's the problem. Once car was thought to crash the Windows Operating System! What downloads have you downloaded?
JD
Once happened to me. Did what EleCtrIfiED_fReAK did.
Jordan
I tried reinstalling the game, and it didn't help.

Then use the mouse.

Update keyboard drivers.

About the 20mb download. I got it finished in 25 minutes and I got Dialup. You must be talking about the nVidia Driver. I got that on Friday smile.gif

This is Jordan talking (he is here with me, but he's too lazy to log out of my account and log into his)

Hah, takes me about 25 minutes to download 1 MB.

Did you download anything for MM recently?

Also check for viruses.

any modifications?
Jordan
Nope...besides Carloader but thats not really a modification.
rpgsimmaster
Oh Yes, I had that problem; I think I actually did a system reinstall (i.e. Format Drive C: and reinstall Windows)...

If you have a USB keyboard, use that instead - it seems to work in replacement of a PS/2 Keyboard (I think that's another thing I did, temporarily)

Even better, get a joystick or driving wheel!
Jordan
Heh, my keyboard is PS/2 and USB [the thingy comes off the plugin for USB] and I use the Universal Serial Bus option..
rpgsimmaster
Ahhh. Yes... Actually, the USB + PS/2 plugs does not mean it runs PS/2...
It's actually a feature where, if you plug it into a laptop that does not provide sufficient USB power to operate a device, you also plug it into a PS/2 port for an extra power boost; I have a peripheral like that. I wonder why a keyboard would need it...

I guess you won't take my recommendation of wiping your hard drive and reinstalling?

Have you looked to find out if there are any updated drivers for your keyboard? Maybe it's a problem with Direct X? Maybe you need to disable the multimedia keys function (if it has one)? Maybe if you have a Packard-Bell puke.gif you need to turn off ActivBoard? Maybe it's a problem with the computer interrupts?

This is the problem with computers: if something's not working right, there are 500 possibilities why it's not working, especially if it's under Microsoft® Windows®...
Jordan
Haha, yeah Windows has its faults.. rolleyes.gif

No I don't have Packard-Bell, my computer was built by a friend. smile.gif

Dude, the same exact thing happened to me after downloading general lee. I have the latest drivers and rite after downloading general lee it started. Delete general lee from your mm folder.
Jordan
Where did you download the General Lee?
rpgsimmaster
Hmmm... That MIGHT be it, except I don't know if deleting General Lee will fix it...

Just get a joystick. Sorry to sound pushy, but it's a really good idea.
Ahriman
I got a steering wheel and i put all the controls on the buttons. wink.gif I luv my steering wheel.
Jordan
I might look on eBay for a steering wheel.. smile.gif
Ahriman
I live in nyc and i just went to best buy and got myself a MOMO for 100 bucks. Its really nice.
Jordan
u can get them cheaper than that
Ahriman
yeah, 30 bucks, but no buttons and no centerin spring, no feel in the pedals, (brake presses harder than accelerator), dont get 9 buttins, and its really small. I can get a screenshot for you if you want.
Jordan
Ohhh..can you post a SS?

Oh, yeah... I'd got one steering wheel a few weeks ago.
But the mouse isn't cool too???
Jordan
Nah. I like keyboards.
ykowalek
Hehehe.
But the mouse still is better than the keyboard. Is good when you are cornering.
You just need some pratice... =)
Jordan
Mouse turns too fast..

Speaking of MM1....After updating my compy to Sp2 a while ago, I realized I couldn't play MM1 ...because i had the XP patch installed or something. So i reinstalled, but MM1 doesn't seem to work with downloaded cars anymore...and if i install the patch MM1 doesn't work at all...anyone have any fixes?
Jordan
So, does anyone else have answers?

??? I don't think anyone does??
Jordan
I'm still getting these errors with the latest drivers and everything installed. Could it be a lack of memory or a problem with my keyboard or something?
